Sneaky Insurance Premiums When Hiring a Car

How many times have we been tempted by an amazing advertisement that offers a truly fantastic car hire rate, only to soon realise that there are nasty hidden extras to push that price sky high? Sound familiar?

This really can be something of a problem and it is therefore imperative to check a few things out before going ahead and parting with your money; A.K.A. read the small print.

Car Leasing can be a notoriously disingenuous industry where it comes to revealing the complete truth about rates. Often, the rate they will advertise will not be what you end up paying and essential insurance will be one of those costs that customers overlook in the first instance. (more...)

Insuring your Property

There are some people who think that if they just purchase home contents insurance, this will be sufficient to cover any eventuality that may affect the property. There are others that would prefer to cover any expenses with the exterior as and when they crop up. Big mistake on both counts!

If I am being completely honest here, I am never that much of a fan, when it comes to insurance. However, I definitely do realise how important both types of insurance are for your property .

Turning our attention to home contents insurance first, this is probably the least vital out of the two, but as we live in a society where burglaries appear to be a continuing threat and our environment is on the change, you really cannot afford to do without it. (more...)

Additional Insurance Costs When Purchasing a Home

This is somewhat of a touchy subject for me and I fervently believe that I was ripped off by the company that sold me a mortgage with an additional insurance package. You see, there are many mortgage lenders out there that will absolutely insist that you take out an insurance cover when you purchase a mortgage from them. This will be to cover your mortgage premiums in the event of illness etc.

For the most part, this is going to be a necessary evil and it will transpire to be one extra annoying cost that is added to the never ending bill you will face for purchasing a property. If you are looking at houses for sale and still believe yourself to be a strong position in order to secure a mortgage, you really must shop around for the best deal.

In the market today, many mortgage lenders will be under the impression that you will be eternally grateful for the fact that they are offering you this product in the first place. They may well add on one of these additional policies and you could be paying far more than you need to. (more...)

How to Deal with Insurance Company Complaints

Each year, tens of thousands of UK residents report their insurance companies to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). The three most common reasons for official consumer complaints are delays, poor settlement offers, and denials of claims. But before you do anything hasty like filing an official complaint, it is imperative that you exhaust every avenue open to you.

In this article we are going to explain the best way to resolve a dispute with your insurance company. The first thing you should do is get yourself a pen and a pad of paper. This is to record the names of the insurance representatives you will speak with. Also, jot down the date and time of the call.

If you find that you are not making any progress over the phone, it may be necessary to send the company a registered letter explaining your problem. That way they know you have a record of your requests. Since the top Insurance company complaints are simple delays, you should probably wait a few weeks after the final correspondence before you take decisive action. (more...)

Spanish Mortgages Bring the Market to its Knees

The Spanish real estate bubble was one of the largest in history. According to reliable reports, home prices appreciated by 200 percent from 1995 to 2007. This astonishing growth was spurred mostly by easy access to home loans and an unprecedented number of new housing developments.

As you might expect, international investment during this period reached an all time high. Some of the most enthusiastic investors were from the UK. Because their own real estate prices were more stagnant in comparison, thousands of UK residents invested in Spanish properties.

But like all good things, the free ride had to come to an end. In the first year of the crash, Spanish properties plunged by nearly 75 percent and homeowners defaulted on Spanish mortgages at a record pace. As a result, most developers simply abandoned their projects, leaving them unfinished. The reason for this was simple: it would have cost more to complete the homes than they were worth on the open market. (more...)

The Growth of Private Insurance in the UK

Even though the National Health Service (NHS) provides healthcare for every person in the UK, private insurance coverage has increased of late. According to government statistics, NHS covers 86 percent of all health care costs, while private providers pay for the rest.

Now, fourteen percent might not seem like all that much, but in a country that has a highly-rated, government-run health care system, it is a bit confusing. Really, why would anyone pay for a service they can get for free?

The number one reason that some citizens purchase supplemental insurance from private providers is because the NHS will not cover everything. For example, more than 10 million men in the UK suffer from Erectile Dysfunction. And though prescriptions pills have been proven effective, the NHS will not pay from them. But is it worth taking out a no fax payday loan to pay for private insurance? (more...)

Why is Home Contents Insurance Important?

Many of us brush aside the need for contents insurance, deeming it paranoid. The truth is, we don't tend to think about a scenario where we have lost some of our possessions or they have been irreparably damaged. In order to protect ourselves from such a contingency, it is important to be insured. Content insurance can cover any or all of the contents of your home. We often have things of great value; it could be monetary value or simply emotional value that we assign to our belongings. Even if it is the latest hi-fi system, or your old cube rattan garden furniture , you can make sure it is all covered against theft or damage.

It is important to state here that insurance does not really cover the emotional or nostalgic value we may have for our possessions, it only covers value in terms of money. However, it can be comforting to know that the contents of our home are protected against contingencies and we won't be left completely high and dry should such an event occur.

Contents insurance covers the items that have been affected. This could be loss due to theft, or accidents like fire, floods etc. mishaps that may occur in the home due to appliances etc. are also considered to be accidents, and it does not always have to be natural disasters!

Why the Need for Home Insurance?

Home contents insurance is often underestimated by people. Many people choose to forego home insurance, and by that I mean contents insurance. The rationale is that it is better to save the money and invest it rather than pay it regularly to insurance companies. This saved money can come in handy in case of a contingency! There are many flaws in this argument.

It is difficult to imagine the actual situation of losing everything in your home. Imagine that you were out on a holiday and came to find that there was a fire and your entire home was wrecked! Everything from the window shutters to your coveted electronics were damaged beyond repair. When something like this actually happens, it can be overwhelming and impossible to handle in one shot.

What insurance offers is the opportunity to pay out small sums of money on a regular basis and be at peace in the knowledge that you are protected should any accident or theft befall your home. If insurance was not a good idea, nobody would buy it. But people do buy it, and benefit from it. (more...)

Be Safe Not Sorry!

Business travel is expensive, there are no two ways about it. But there are certain areas that you cannot afford to scrimp on whether you are your own boss or whether you are working as an employee. Travel insurance has to be the top of that list.

As you are sitting in one of the corporate apartments Sydney or maybe Bangkok or New York, after a long day with clients, insurance is probably the last thing on your mind, but that is the danger – some people forget about the absolute necessity for travel insurance until it is too late.

There are so many dangers today that can befall the modern traveller, and it is your employer's responsibility to you and to your family to minimise this risk by taking out comprehensive insurance to make sure that you are covered while travelling. (more...)

Cover Yourself

House insurance may seem expensive at face-value, but they are one of the necessities of life, and you should never cut corners in the level of cover provided. Whether you have a palace in Monaco, a flat in London or apartments in Rome , you need to find the insurance that suits you and gives you peace of mind.

There are various ways of finding home insurance deals, but it is not always so easy to compare the features of the policy that they offer. Many people's first stop is a company that they know and trust, maybe one that they have used before. This may not be the cheapest option, but if you have had a positive experience of using that company, then that is enough for many people.

Another way to obtain an insurance quote is directly with reputable insurance companies, either by phone or on the internet. Many of them now provide instant quotes on-line, so you can see almost instantly how much your policy will cost and what it will include. (more...)

Get Away to Sardinia

If you are looking for a break with a difference, have you considered Sardinia, situated between Italy, Spain and Tunisia? This charming Italian island, the second largest island in the Mediterranean, offers sun, sand, history, and terrific food for the discerning traveller. For a great holiday try a Sardegna vacanze , as they say in Italian, or a Sardinian holiday to us English speakers!

Why Sardinia? It offers clean and relatively un-crowded beaches dotted along the coastlines of the classy Costa Smeralda, as well as the popular beaches of La Pelosa, and Poetto Beach near the capital Cagliari. It's white, safe beaches are a haven for families, although be warned, as one of the most upmarket locations in Italy, the resorts of the Costa Smeralda are pretty pricey!

The main resort for package destinations is pretty Alghero. It used to be a Catalan colony and still retains its decidedly Spanish atmosphere. It is a friendly and unspoilt town much loved by British holiday makers. (more...)

You Think You Have No Need for Travel Insurance!

There are some people out there that are far more concerned with trying to find the very Best Currency Exchange Rates than looking for a good travel insurance policy. After all, we are in the EU now, so surely we would not have to pay a vast amount of money for medical assistance once we are in possession of an E111. How wrong can this be!

If you think that the E111 form is an extension and entitlement to free health care in countries that are within the Schengen agreement, this is very wrong? It simply identifies you as an EU citizen and you will still be eligible to cover the costs of any medical treatments that you are in receipt of. If you have travel insurance, this should then be paid for.

It is a massive fact that if something goes drastically wrong in another country, the cost of medical bills can and will get out of hand and far beyond the means of the average person in no time at all. We are literally talking about tens of thousands of pounds here and in the most extreme cases, this could run into the millions. (more...)

How Dental Insurance Can Help Save in the Long Run

Given the extortionate fees that dentists seem apt to charge, it is no wonder that so many patients feel obliged to find an alternative way of funding such treatments. let’s face it, NHS treatment is rarely available nowadays and people need to go it alone and find alternatives.

This is where dental insurance comes into play. Instead of paying hundreds of pounds at a time for treatment that may become necessary, instead, a smaller monthly instalment can make everything far more simple.

There are a number of different plans that you can choose between here. They will always require an initial check-up, so that the dentist is able to forecast the level of work that you seem likely to require in the future. With this in mind, it is another reason why you need to ensure that you are taking care of your oral hygiene at all times. (more...)

Contents Insurance: What is it?

Contents insurance is a way of securing your possessions against theft or accidents like fire or flood. It ensures that you are reimbursed for the monetary value of the damaged or lost items. A monthly premium payment to the insurance company covers your possessions in case of any eventuality.

Many people need convincing that contents insurance is really necessary. The usual argument is that why pay an insurance company for a theft or accident that may or may not occur, when you can save that money and use it for something else?

The truth is that these people do not really consider the shock and severity of losing all their possessions and the sudden pressure of having to replenish your home. Imagine there was a fire in your home, and everything from the window shutters to your clothes, jewellery, electronics, down to the small plant in your bedroom is gone, history. (more...)

Is Home Contents Insurance Really Important?

Many people fail to see the importance of contents insurance for their home. The rationale is that in case of accident or damage, they can afford to replace everything, but are not prepared to pay premiums each month in case such an eventuality occurs.

The point is, we don't realise the enormity of losing all our belongings and when faced with such a reality, we seldom have the capacity to deal with it. We don't always realise the value of our belongings.

We keep thinking that our possessions are not really that valuable in terms of money, but things keep piling up, and before we know it, we have acquired possessions that add up to a big amount. In this light, thinking that home insurance is not worth it, is like voluntarily closing your eyes with shutters . (more...)

Home Insurance: Is It Important?

Some people might scoff at the title of this article for two different reasons. The first reason being that they believe home contents insurance is ridiculous and does not need to be discussed, or secondly because they believe it is obvious why home contents insurance is so important! For those who have an open mind, read on.

Home contents insurance covers your belongings. You can insure whatever you like, right from your Window Blinds to your TV to your kitchen to your jewellery. Different policies offer different types of benefits. Usually home insurance covers all kinds of contingencies that may result in loss or damage of your property.

Contingencies include damage or loss due to fire, floods, electrical accidents, and theft. There is a whole list of circumstances under which you will be compensated for the monetary value of your items. (more...)

Insurance Policies for the Home

Home insurance is something that we cannot do without today. Bearing the blow of sudden damage or loss of our property can put us seriously out of pocket. And this goes for most of us! Many people do not believe in insuring their possessions, rationalising it by calling it a waste of money. They could not be more wrong.

The truth is that an eventuality can occur in any form and at any time. It is called as such because one cannot plan ahead for it. The point is, when faced with a terrible incident which results in loss or damage of our home and property, not many of us can afford to handle the situation on our own.

This is where insurance can come in handy. Contents and home insurance can cover all our possessions and the built property from accidental damage, theft, and may also cover maintenance costs. This is true no matter where we live. Whether it is for our home in England or for our home in the Netherlands with the Jaloezieen window shutters, insurance is a must! (more...)

Home Accident Insurance and How it Helps

Home insurance protects your house against all kinds of unforeseen calamities. This can include theft, robbery, fire, flooding, and anything else that results in the loss or damage of your property. Home contents insurance covers all your possessions as well.

People are often unconvinced about the need for purchasing contents insurance. People often argue that it is wiser to save the money and invest it rather than paying it every month to insurance companies.

If you can imagine losing your home and property and being left with nothing, insuring your home and your possessions does not seem like such a bad idea. All it took for me to get insured was to imagine everything in my house, from the Raambekleding window shutters, all the bed linen to all my electronics, clothes and furniture getting damaged. (more...)

Applying for High Value Insurance

Everyone who owns a home should purchase home insurance. No, it is not required by law like automotive insurance, but it can be just as important in the event of an accident. What does it do? The average home insurance policy protects customers from most accidents and natural disasters, including fire and flood.

Home insurance also protects the contents of your abode up to a certain value. Ordinary items like furniture, electronics, appliances and even personal effects are often covered under a standard policy. But, as we mentioned, there is a limit to this coverage. On average, personal items are only covered up to fifty-thousand pounds. But what do you do when you have very expensive things?

In all honestly, fifty-thousand pounds is not a lot of coverage. For folks who have expensive art, jewellery and rugs, it might only be enough to reimburse them for a single item. That is why the same companies that offer equity release mortgages also offer something called high value insurance. (more...)

Travel Insurance for Business

Many business travellers forget how necessary travel insurance is. They assume that it is automatically covered by their employers, without really checking out the details. In effect you could be putting your life on the line for your employers if you are not properly covered.

Whether you buy insurance online or from a branch office, you have to make sure you are covered for everything, whether it is general travel insurance or for those things specifically related to your business. There are many things that could affect you on a business trip, some that you would not even think of.

What would happen if you were injured in the office of a client? Or got food poisoning when entertaining customers? People tend to overlook these possibilities but it does happen. (more...)

The Mystery of Insurance

Most of us try to cut costs where we can and we are pretty adept at shopping online for the cheapest books or even electronic equipment. Yet when it comes to house and car insurance and even travel insurance we are completely mystified on how to compare like with like. The on-line forms for each company are often very different and even if we enter the same base data for each quote it is often difficult to fully understand what each quote covers us for and what it does not.

The easiest thing to do to try and understand this is to make a spreadsheet (or take notes) on what each policy covers. It takes time to go through all the small print on the quotes, but at least this way you have a visual aid to understanding exactly what is included and what is not.

It can make a real difference to your choice of insurance and you might even choose to opt for a more expensive policy as a result. For example some travel polices might not cover winter sports whilst some might, and some companies might be more generous in the amounts covered for personal theft or injury. (more...)

Health Insurance options For You

Health insurance is something nobody can choose to ignore. Medical costs are on the rise and it is impossible for most people to incur large medical bills out of their own pockets. No one can foretell when one would require medical help, so it is important to be prepared at all times.

Not all companies provide health insurance to their employees; and not all people are employees in a company, however, it is important for everyone to have a health cover. There are many options for those who are interested in buying Individual Health Insurance.

Insurance policies for medical coverage depend on factors such as the premium amount and the type of medical treatment you wish to include in the cover. What policy you buy generally boils down to the premium. Obviously, a policy that allows for constant medical care will entail a higher premium. (more...)
